Imenti Central MP Gideon Mwiti To Face New Charges For Interfering With Investigations
After DNA tests confirmed that Imenti Central MP Gideon Mwiti indeed raped former journalist in his office, Mwiti had no option other than to appear in court. However, after the first hearing at Milimani law courts on April 2nd, the MP was released on a sh. 100,000 bond and the case was scheduled for hearing today.
Working behind scenes
On appearing for the hearing today, it emerged that Mwiti has been working behind scenes to destroy the evidence available against him. It was revealed that Mwiti has been threatening all the witnesses scheduled to testify against him. The prosecutor sought to have the bond lifted and the accused put behind bars due to witness intimidation.
The husband to the rape victim earlier on told journalists that Mwiti has been sending emissaries to convince him to agree for an out of court settlement. However, the husband stood his ground and said the due legal process must be followed. We are all keen to see the kind of punishment the MP will have to go through if convicted.
